LOCATION AND CLIMATE
Primosten (North Dalmatia, Croatia) is popular tourist destination located in region North Dalmatia in Croatia. It is located on two small peninsulas, around 30 km south from Sibenik. Primosten has around 2990 inhabitants. They are mostly directed to agriculture, vine and olive growing, fishing and tourism.
Climate in Primosten is mild Mediterranean. It is protected from the winds because it is located between bays.
You can get to Primosten by car, bus, boat or plane. Primosten is located 32 km far from Split`s airport.
HISTORY
Area of Primosten has been inhabitated since 7th century B.C. Name Primosten was first time mentioned in 1564. It was located on small island called Caput Cista and surrounded with walls. It was difficult to communicate with mainland because of the Turkish attacks in that time and it lasted till the end of the 17th century. Primosten started developing outside of city walls.
In the second half of the 20th century tourism starts to develope. Many households started to rent their houses and rooms, restaurants, camps, hotels were built. Today inhabitants are mostly directed to tourism and offer accommodation in apartments, rooms, private houses, pensiones...
CULTURE AND ATTRACTIONS
Inhabitants celebrate the day of the Lady of Porto on 27th of July and pray for the rain. The Lady of Loreto is protector of Primosten and it is celebrated on 9th and 10th of May.
